Surrounded by Cultural Heritage Objects all over the city, the Early Stage Researchers (ESR) in CHANGE and ApPEARS were finally meeting each other in lovely Paris. The kick-off training event for all ESRs provided new insights in the academic field of colour as well as new friendships.
Mid-October in Paris was both rainy and chilly, however the atmosphere among the ESRs seemed warm and welcoming. Many were eager to fully start their PhD-programme. Through industry visits, lab tours and museum visits, ESRs could gain new knowledge at the same time getting to know their fellow PhD-students – hopefully resulting in three years of fruitful cooperation.
As part of the training event, all ESRs attended the Colour and Imaging Conference (CIC27). Here the ESRs could either build on their knowledge or be presented to a whole new world of research – as they come from various backgrounds. The interdisciplinarity of the projects makes them interesting, but also challenging. – The conference gave me insights to a different field of study, colour science and imaging, as well as the potential demands in optical science and 2.5 D and 3D printing, says Ali Payami, ESR in ApPEARS.
After completing the training event and coming back to their respective institutions, one of the main take-aways from the week was the new acquaintances from the conference, meeting experts in the research field and discuss with potential collaboration partners, says Agnese Babini, ESR CHANGE.
– We believe that Paris event motivated us to do more and challenge ourselves to a higher standard of work, several of the ESRs ApPEARS agrees.
