Linköping University is one of the larger academic institutions in Sweden, home of 27,000 students and 4,000 employees. Education, research, and PhD training are the 3-prongued missions of all four faculties. Linköping University emphasises dialogue with the surrounding business sphere and the community at large, both in terms of research and education. Linköping is participating in ApPEARS through the Department of Science and Technology, Media and Information Technology (MIT) division, Media Design and Image Reproduction group, which conducts fundamental and applied research, and undergraduate and postgraduate education. MIT consists of six research groups; each focusing on a separate aspect of visual information technology, all sharing access to state-of-the-art equipment through Norrköping visualization center C. The division for Media and Information Technology (MIT) conducts fundamental and applied research, as well as undergraduate and postgraduate education. MIT’s total staff is currently 76 persons, including 31 senior researchers/lecturers holding a PhD degree, and 13 PhD students. Research facilities relevant for this project include different instruments for colour measurements, multispectral imaging, BRDF-measurements, a 3D-printer, and a 12-channel inkjet printer with special software for controlling the printer in detail. The research group Media Design and Image Reproduction focus especially on topics related to image reproduction and printing, e.g. halftoning, paper optics, modelling and characterization of dot gain, and colour prediction models. Linköping University, with a total staff of 4000, 27 000 undergraduate students (2000 international) and 700 PhD students, offers a wide range of available undergraduate and graduate courses.
