In this picture you can see the happiness of who just handed in the lab journal of the course “Physically Based Rendering and Material Appearance Modelling” 😅🤩 This course is a milestone to effectively understand how computer vision can be fundamental to 3D print the appearance (I really like the words 3D printing the Appearance😎).

In ESR 15 Riccardo Tonello's project, in particular, rendering techniques are important to improve the control of the projectors and the 3D reconstruction of the image before and during the printing process.

Research can also be conducted at home during lockdown! 🧐 Marine Shao (ESR12) is exploring how 3D technology can be used to improve surgical training by creating organ simulations which look and feel like real body parts. 3D printing of moulds allows the use of a broad range of soft materials able mimic the texture of organs. The moulds are created by digitally subtracting the organ model volume obtained by medical imaging from a larger rectangular volume using CAD software 👏
